Okay, so, I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about how we work, especially those of us with ADHD, and I wanted to share some of my reflections. I'm someone who's always struggled with things like memory and the written word. It's like, growing up, I always felt I had to mask my difficulties, find a way around them because I didn't want people to know. I had to get creative and resourceful because I was always having to figure things out to get by.
But you know what? That struggle has actually made me a strong leader and a unique problem solver. When you're always up against it, you learn how to make things work – it's a skill we've all had to develop. And now, with the rise of AI, it feels like we're entering a really amazing time.
And having just recently collaborated with Stephanie Camilleri of the ADHD advocate She recently did a webinar for ADHD Empowerment month about AI and ADHD. I truly believe that AI can be like an "ultimate body double".
It can help us with the things we find difficult, like writing and remembering, which is where AI is powerful, so that we can focus on our strengths.
There was this one client she had, a high-flyer in a bank in Hong Kong. He was really into crypto, but very hesitant about AI. He has that classic ADHD perfectionism and didn't want a machine doing something he felt he could do better. She encouraged him to just try it.
He drafted something and then got AI to do the same and he saw that it was comparable. It was a lightbulb moment for him. Now he’s actually created an AI legal tool for his bank! This is just an example of how once we take a step to embrace the tool, we can really improve upon it.
It's not about AI taking over; it's about using it as a tool. We still need to be the leaders and the problem solvers that we naturally are. AI is like a virtual assistant that’s there for you all the time, helping with the things you need a bit of a crutch with.
It allows us to shine in our own unique ways. I’m excited about how we can use AI to help each other and embrace our neurodiversity. What are your thoughts?
